First things First, Plan it out!

Gallery walls are great for any large wall that you may not know what to do with. It’s a creative way to display everything you love: keepsakes, art, personal photos, whatever you want! Before you start collecting your pieces it’s important to measure the space you’re working with, you can start by measuring the size of the entire wall, or just the area you are focusing on, this will ensure that all the pieces you pick will fit in the allocated space.

Next, you need to find your unique pieces! The beauty a gallery wall is that it allows you to use any combination of art. We tried to incorporate a variety of options in ours to achieve this eclectic look. It is important to make sure you have different textures in your selections, we used metal, wood, fabric, and stone in ours. A variety of materials will add dimension to your wall and make for a more interesting display. Mirrors are also a great addition, especially if you are working with a smaller space, mirrors will add depth to the room, making it appear larger.

Color is also a consideration when planning your wall, for ours we chose a neutral palette with pops of pastel colors to tie in other aspects of the room. Your gallery wall is a good opportunity to bring in other colors into your home to keep everything cohesive.

When choosing the elements of your gallery wall, it’s also important to consider size. You will want to play around with small, medium, and large pieces. This will make it easier to fit them all together and adds dimension to the overall look.

Lets hang!

Before you start putting holes into your wall, it helps to see how it will all come together first. First, lay your pieces out on the floor and play around with different combinations until you find the one that works. This is the fun part! There are so many ways to organize your gallery wall, so find the one that speaks to you. Once you have it laid out, snap a picture of it on your phone to reference when you start to hang. Another option would be to measure each piece and use painters’ tape to mark where they each will go on the wall. This will give you the option to make changes if needed before you start hanging.

Whether you tape it out on the wall or just go for it, we like to start with one of the larger pieces and build around it. The larger piece will anchor the whole collection and give you the wiggle room to shift things around it if needed.

Make it personal!

Gallery walls can be whatever you want them to be! Why not make it something personal to your life story. This is a great opportunity to showcase any art projects, DIY pieces, or personal photos. Since there are so many different aspects of the gallery wall, it’s easy to work things in and keep a cohesive look.
